The Core Values Development bridge

The Core Values Development bridge

The Core Values Development bridge helps firms facilitate the development of the client's Core Values and definitions to guide internal and external conduct.  You must have been through this process and developed your firm's Core Values before offering this service to clients.

Important info
We recommend holding the Core Values Development session away from the client's workplace to avoid distractions. If possible, suggest that the client makes the session part of a bigger team building or social event.

To access the  Core Values Development bridge, go to Navigation panel > Bridges > Core Values Development bridge.

Understanding the Core Values Development process

Core Values cannot be plagiarised and made to fit an organisation; they need to be developed from within to be authentic and get true buy-in from your team. The most effective way for a business to develop its Core Values is by using an external facilitator.
  1. The Process Guide outlines best practice use of the content in the Core Values Development bridge; click the Download Process Guide button in the top right-hand corner to view this guide
Note
Ensure you review the  Process Guide prior to using the content in the bridge.

Marketing the Core Values Development service

There are many ways to actively market the Core Values Development service, including:
  1. Discussing your Core Values Development service as part of a CCRPAM or Annual Accounts Review Meeting
  2. Sending out relevant educational marketing content to your database to subtly position the value of Core Values.
    1. Go to Navigation panel > Marketing  > The Gap + BOMA  > The Gap + BOMA Library Catalogue to check out our educational marketing ready for you to send via BOMA
  3. Hosting one of our Gap Webinars or Seminars to generate interest in your Core Values Development service.

The Core Values Development Proposals

There are two proposals in the Core Values Development bridge to get acceptance for the same service.  One is specifically for facilitating the Core Values Development session with the client's team and the other is for facilitating the session only with the business partners. Only send a proposal for services you have gained conceptual agreement for.
  1. Consider the client's unique situation and use the checkboxes to select the objectives, measures of success and value to the client; add bespoke objectives, measures of success and points of value to reflect the client's individual needs
  2. If your client does not accept within seven days, call them to follow up
For more information, see our  Using proposals article.

Tip
Carefully read through the objectives, measures of success and values to better understand the types of problems this service will help solve for your clients.

Delivering the Core Values Development session

Client outcomes

By attending a Core Values Development session, clients will:
  1. Build a foundation for the culture they believe is fundamental to their success
  2. Develop a framework for working relationships at both management and operational levels
  3. Determine the values that will drive their business to achieve its vision
  4. Prioritise up to five Core Values with simple definitions
  5. Establish the consistent behaviours that will demonstrate their Core Values

Session duration

A Core Values Development session should take four hours. The Delivery Notes available in Navigation panel > Bridges > Core Values Development > Delivery contains recommended timings for each agenda item.

The service

You will facilitate a Core Values Development session to document up to five Core Values with simple definitions which will underpin the expectations of behaviour within their business. You'll help attendees brainstorm the values important to their team then prioritise them to select a maximum of five. You'll then help define each Core Value then formulate a plan for how to unveil and display the client's Core Values.

Prior to the session, you will provide all attendees with pre-work to complete, ensuring they've each considered their own personal values and the values they think are essential for the business.

Important info
We recommend enforcing a 'no pre-work, no meeting' policy. Politely discuss the benefit of pre-work and reschedule the meeting so it does not become one of discovery.

  3. Core Values Summary: A template to use to record the client's chosen Core Values and definitions and send to them at the end of the session.
  4. Guide to Utilising Your Core Values: A guide to send to clients following the session to help them illustrate, communicate, teach, integrate, reward and revisit their Core Values.
