Microsoft has blocked macros in Excel file

Microsoft has changed the default behaviour of Office applications to block macros in files downloaded from the internet or opened from an email attachment. This means that when you download an Excel file from the portal that contains macros, a red banner will appear in the Excel toolbar with a security risk warning and the macros will not run. Clicking the Learn More button takes you to an article containing information about how to enable the macros.

To fix this issue:
  1. Download the Excel file from the portal, e.g. the Personal Budget Template.
  2. Navigate to the file (likely to be in your Downloads folder).
  3. Right-click on the Excel file and select Properties.
  4. In the Properties dialog, select the Unblock checkbox on the General tab.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Send the Excel file to the client attached to an email.

Important info
There are instructions for the client to enable the macros on the Instructions page of the Personal Budget Template file in case they experience the same error when saving the Personal Budget Template from an email attachment.
