Importing clients via CSV file

Importing clients via CSV file

The CSV import is a feature available in the Manage Clients area for administrators, and in the Clients area firm-wide. It allows users to add clients and their contacts to The Gap Portal via a CSV file.

Using our CSV template

To start, navigate to Main menu >  > Manage Clients (if you're a portal administrator) or to Main menu >  > View Clients (if you're a portal user).
  1. Click the CSV Import button in the top right corner. An Import from CSV file prompt will appear.
  2. Click the link in 'Download CSV template'.
  3. Use the CSV template to ensure the importing will work:
    1. Compare your CSV file to the template. Ensure your row 1 (columns A to E) has the correct headers in the appropriate order required for importing, i.e. the client's Profile required fields
    2. The required values for each client in the CSV file are Client Name, First Name, Last Name, and Client Email
    3. You can copy the contents from your CSV file and paste them on the template, or copy row 1 from the template and paste it on your CSV file

Note
Make sure to check if the CSV file includes all of your clients' required information. If any rows in columns A-E are empty for a client, that client will not import.

Adding clients to your CSV file

  1. Prepare your CSV file as explained above.
  2. Ensure the data are going to the correct columns.
  3. If a client has multiple contacts, ensure all contacts have the same Client Name.

Uploading your CSV file

To start, navigate to Main menu >  > Manage Clients (if you're a portal administrator) or to Main menu >  > View Clients (if you're a portal user).
  1. Click the CSV Import button in the top right corner. An Import from CSV file prompt will appear.
  2. Click the Browse... button and select your CSV file > Open.
  3. Click the Import button in the bottom right corner of the popover prompt. The page will reload and add the data from the CSV file immediately, sorted alphabetically.

Note
If you upload a second CSV file containing the client name and email address of an existing portal client, the remaining client details will update. A duplicate client profile will not be created.
